The cycle of Creative Workshops on jewellery held by Barbara Uderzo resumes in 2024 with the first workshop dedicated to a classic jewellery theme: the heart as a symbol of love. Because of Valentine’s Day, after having seen some examples of jewels with this shape in the museum rooms, you will understand how a simple sign drawn with a pencil can become a splendid thematic jewel. In the laboratory, the metal will be worked into the wire to create a shape that can be defined with imaginative materials, such as small elements in hard stone and natural materials. Participants will be able to bring personal materials to integrate into their pendants.

By participating in this Creative Workshop you will be able to create a necklace supported by the guidance of designer Barbara Uderzo. In the rooms of the Museum, you will observe some examples of ancient necklaces, some precious Made in Italy jewels and other interesting artist jewels. In the laboratory, we will work on taking inspiration from some examples and experimenting with a basic goldsmith’s technique to give shape to metal wire. The creation of a modular element and its repetition will give life to a necklace. Each participant will complete their jewel with other materials, chosen from those proposed by the museum or brought by the participants.

BRAID AND TIE: FROM THE METAL WIRE TO THE RING

After a short tour inside the museum rooms to focus on some important examples of rings in history, we will work with different metal threads, creating weaves, torchons or spiral elements then rework to create a personalized ring. Elements such as semiprecious stones, selected stones, colored elements, shells, and glass can be included.

The workshop will start from the observation of ancient examples by visiting the museum rooms. The laboratory will give the opportunity to create a rigid bracelet by experimenting with copper wires and other metals combined with different materials. You will use the “pin” for bracelets to shape the jewel to your size.

At the museum, you will observe some examples starting from ancient archaeological finds up to some current earrings displayed in the showcases. The workshop will provide instructions for creating hook closures starting from stainless steel wire, and then creating your personalized jewel using small colored stones and other elements, including reused materials.
