FORMS OF CONTEMPORARY HERITAGE
An overview of Italian contemporary jewellery and its relationship with tradition, everyday life, artistic practices, and the original skills of authors working within an international context. Together, heritage of high craftsmanship and design interact with the forms of wearable art.
Starting from a reflection on the meaning of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), according to the UNESCO definition, this exhibition aims to offer an overview of the forms of contemporary heritage expressed through the culture of research-based jewellery.
Intangible Cultural Heritage, according to UNESCO’s general definition, seeks to recognize human assets that are traditional, contemporary, and living, since “intangible cultural heritage does not only represent inherited traditions from the past, but also contemporary [rural and urban] practices in which diverse cultural groups take part.”
The works exhibited in this context express a “community” operating within a dynamic framework, influenced by all the elements of the context in which these artists practice, linked to their background, professional skills, and their relationship with the contemporary jewellery community, composed of professionals and an increasingly wide audience of culture and art enthusiasts. History, heritage, and research in high craftsmanship play a fundamental role in the multiple forms of contemporary jewellery.
